Home Inspection Checklist: What to Look for Before Possession
Before taking possession, inspect the home systematically. This checklist covers structure, finishes, utilities, doors, windows and common areas.
Walls, Floors and Ceilings
Look for visible cracks, dampness, uneven finishes, stains or damage. Record issues clearly with photographs.
Doors and Windows
Check operation, locks, seals, alignment and visible damage. Test all accessible openings.
Plumbing and Electrical
Test taps, drainage, switches, sockets and fixtures where possible. Confirm that systems function as expected.
Fixtures and Finishes
Inspect tiles, cabinetry, paint, sanitary fittings and other promised specifications against the agreed documents.
Document the Snag List
Create a written list, share it through the appropriate process and keep evidence of communication. Clarify how and when defects will be rectified.
